Snowstorm
Like many other places in the Mid West, we cancelled a meeting tonight. The projected snow falls make the highways particularly daunting. So, the word has gone out: STAY HOME. GO HOME.
The reaction has been fun. No one is particularly heartbroken about cancelling the meeting. It was an important one, too! But, not anyone particularly cares. Rescheduling is a happy prospect. Being home unexpectedly with freed up time to do whatever is a welcomed occasion.
I think that perhaps snow days and snow nights in an overscheduled world are what Sabbath was intended to be…at least emotionally and spiritually. God wants us to enjoy our days…or at least ONE of them each week. There needs to be “down time.” We don’t get enough of it. We don’t get enough time just to be; to be grateful, to be appreciative of living, to be free of an agenda set to accomplish tasks.
It’s a snow day. It’s a Sabbath. Amen.
